Why Castle Rock Yards Are Hard on Grass (and Cheap Turf)
Castle Rock sits at 6,224 feet, higher than Denver. The town is on the Palmer Divide, where summer storms regularly bring hail. The town has a semi-arid climate, and the terrain around it includes canyons, mesas, plateaus, steep hills and cliffs. That combination means intense UV, big day-to-night temperature swings, clay-heavy soils, and sloped lots that drain unevenly.

Castle Rock Water offers a ColoradoScape rebate for replacing grass. However, artificial turf does not qualify for any part of the rebate, so be wary of any installer who implies otherwise.
What turf does offer is an end to irrigation. Castle Rock Water's plans set watering schedules that apply to residential, non-residential and development customers. A synthetic lawn needs no watering schedule, stays green through restrictions, and removes the risk of water-waste violations. HOA Guidelines in Castle Rock Neighborhoods
Many Castle Rock communities have landscaping covenants, including The Meadows, Crystal Valley Ranch, Castlewood Ranch, Terrain, and Founders Village. According to Castle Rock Water's HOA guidance, Colorado's SB 23-178 means the HOA can restrict artificial turf in the front yard, but not the back.
